Colour Blocking. An ongoing trend.

Colour Blocking is still a major look. A great way to add a splash of colour to your wardrobe and still one of the hottest trends.a

Colour blocking is basically wearing two or more colours at the same time and you can still wear neutral colours and your favourite accessories.  Plus Boots and belts to help the colours that you are blocking.  With London just cooling down after Fashion week, it was obvious that the high end designers are still into colour block in a big way. There is no more “Orange and blue should never be true”.  Celebrities like Beyoncé, Kelly Osbourne, Jessica Biel have already jumped on the band wagon.

When Colour blocking, it is important to stick to the same types of colours. E.g. when using Pastel Colours, just stick to pastels for the different colour blocks like baby pinks and baby blues, violets and mint greens, lemon yellow and peach. Or when using hot colours, just stick to hot colours. Pink and blue, red and purple.  Make colour blocking deliberate. You can even colour block using the same team of colours like hot fuchsias and vivid pinks. Turquoise blues with bright blues.

Don’t mix prints and patterns.  Use solid colours in jackets, belts, pants and tops.  If you do want to use patterns and prints then just use one piece of print per outfit.

Make sure that the items of clothing that you use to colour block are good quality and flattering, good fit and sit how they are supposed to.

The best way to colour block is to look at a colour wheel, choose a colour and the colour opposite is the best match for blocking.  If you aren’t ready or brave enough to wear such rowdy colours together then you can add some white to tone it down a bit and by using white you are also sporting a bit of a retro style. cTry using white rimmed sunglasses/glasses and belts. But to be honest, The Brighter the Better! Don’t be intimidated by Colour Blocking. Be Brave, Be Bold!

If you are not quite ready to “Be Brave, Be Bold” and don’t want to wear that bright dress or outfit. You can go more neutral in the body and add the colour by colour blocking with a loud shoe or handbag that contrasts.

But there is no doubt that Colour Blocking taking over this summer again.

There is no need to stop with your outfit.  You can extend colour blocking into your make-up, eyes, lips, cheeks. Nails. Jewellery.  If you are feeling really brave. You can even colour block your hair

The good thing about colour blocking is that it can be flattering, so you can really make it work for you, use darker shades on the bits of your body that you don’t particularly love and use the bright shades on your favourite bits.  For example if you are having an “I’m fat” day. Then wear darker longer lines down the body and brighten the outfit with a block of colour in your makeup or shoes and accessories.

You still don’t have to stop there, you can colour block in your house, furniture, fabrics and décor.
